Analogue gateways were traditionally
known as Premicells. An analogue
gateway is generally just a mobile phone
in a box that connects to your PBX on a spare line port. An
analogue unit is generally capable of operating only as a dedicated
port, it does not possess any of the sophisticated minute management
features used on the ISDN units.
However, correctly installed they are ideal
for use in the SME environment, for routing mobile calls
out, and in to the office on sharer packages. It is important
to ensure that a spare line port per analogue unit is available,
and once again the system maintainer will need to do some system
programming to enable it to work correctly.
